About the Tutor
Jaya Parker is originally from New Delhi and now lives in St Louis, Missouri in the US.
She learned sewing very early on with her mom and stitched most of her outfits through high school and college dreaming of becoming a ‘fashion designer’ or artist. She went to med school instead and focused on perfecting her ‘sutures’ as she trained to become an OB-GYN specialist in the late 80’s / early 90’s at Delhi University.
Life’s trajectory changed and she moved to the United States where she is now a hospitalist (a physician who treats patients admitted to the hospital).
Jaya started her amazing quilting journey in 2013 after joining the group ‘Desi Quilters’ on Facebook. She is passionate about Indian fabrics, especially sarees and silks and incorporates these into her work whenever possible. In addition, she likes to add art elements to her work.
Full time working woman, mom, wife and daughter, Jaya believes where there’s a passion, one ‘creates time’. Her award winning quilts prove that.
